To provide "sanctuary" lodging for the families of immunocompromised pediatric patients undergoing treatment at UVA Children's hospital.
We understand that when a child needs life-saving medical treatment, the entire family must shift from the life they know to seek out the best treatments possible.
This often means relocating the family for an extended period of time. During this traumatic time, siblings and marriages often struggle as attention is focused completely on patient treatment and recovery.
When this happens, Yellow Door Foundation is here to provide support for the entire family.
The Need for Yellow Door in Charlottesville
The need for safe and convenient lodging for families with children receiving extended care at University of Virginia Children's hospital is rapidly increasing.
The Commonwealth's top-rated hospital offers cutting-edge treatments and more people are traveling long distances to take advantage of them.
For many of these families, hotels are not an option, due to cost, location and the communal environment.
Yellow Door Foundation eases the burden by providing a home away from home for the duration of the family's stay in Charlottesville.
How Families Find Yellow Door
All of our families are vetted and referred by their assigned social worker thru the UVA Children's Housing collaborative, of which Yellow Door is a member. Our hope is that one day we will have the capacity to say "YES" to all referrals.
