(August 6, 2019)
This week at Yellow Door we welcome 6 year old Ben and his family from Northern VA.
Seems hard to believe, but they are our TWENTIETH family since we opened our first apartment 18 months ago!! A HUGE thank you to everyone who has made this milestone possible through your kind donations!
Young Ben was diagnosed with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS) before birth. He had open heart surgeries at 7 days old, 6 months old, and 4 years old. Sadly, none of the corrections supported him long, and he went into heart failure just after his 5th birthday. Listed for transplant in January, he is now in his second week of post -op and will be heading "home" to the Baer/Hart apartment this week!!
We know from a first hand siting that the family has been taking advantage of the wonderful pool at Stone Creek Village!
Here is an update photo of baby Jude! He's looking great!! His folks tell us they're glad he'll be out of the hospital soon and "very happy we have someplace to go."
A grateful shout out to our friend in LA...and all things Clemson...Sarah Moll, and to the Wildan Fund at the Charlottesville Area Community Foundation for their unexpected and most generous donations! We're hoping to add a 4th apartment by year's end, as we continue to try and close the gap in much needed lodging for these immunocompromised patients and their families.
